Feeling Overwhelmed? Your Subconscious Mind Is Trying To Tell You Something

It is almost every day that I get to meet and talk to people that have TOO MANY THINGS ON THEIR PLATE.  I used to be like that. Without really noticing it, my schedule would fill up. I (meaning, my ego) was very excited. I felt like I was an important person, someone who really takes action and is moving things forward.

Some things did move forward, but I found an additional "friend" joining along. The name of the friend was OVERWHELM. And that friend brought along unhappiness, frustration, lots of muscle tension and other stuff.

Being in the self-development field for 12 years, I wasn’t willing to live like that. To run from one place to another, to lose things, to not breath and to crave for relaxation.

So I started to take a good look into the eyes of the beast. I said NO MORE TO OVERWHELM! and then I stated it in a positive way (click here to learn about how to design a positive affirmation that works)."I am intending to be relaxed and peaceful throughout my day".
That meant:

1. Saying no thank you to certain activities.

2. Not packing my day planner with activities that didn’t leave room for breathing.

3. Incorporating meditation, visualization, exercising, or reading a book for a few minutes each day.

That also meant presenting these questions to myself ON A DAILY BASIS:

1. What is important to me?

2. How can I create this today from a place of joy and relaxation (vs. pushing and being stressed about it)?

3. Which tool from my Self-Development Tool Box can I choose to use today (to learn more about this tool box click here)

And today I live this way – there is significantly less stress in my life, less uncertainty, and more serenity, peace and joy. So I ask you to ask yourself those 3 questions, and if you are finding that all the things that are on your plate are so crucial and important, then you are probably not realizing that you are addicted to "doing", that you cannot possibly be in a mode of "Not Doing"… Remember that after all we are human beings NOT human doings. If you relate to that, then what is actually happening to you is that your subconscious mind is trying to communicate with you – the one who is supposed to be conscious. But because you are so overwhelmed, you just don’t hear the message. In one form or another its telling you: "Please, let’s go back to being a Human Being".

It probably wants to tell you to take a deep breath, to slow down, to reconnect with what is really important to you, and to re-evaluate. And start fresh, start with a small (but very significant step), start with setting an intention every single day, that TODAY you are intending to operate from a place of peace.

In fact let me give you here a 7 day system for setting a daily intention that will help you to get out of overwhelm:

Monday:
"I am intending to take a deep breath with every decision I make today".

Tuesday:
"I am intending to say no thank you where I find it appropriate today".

Wednesday:
"I am intending to be in a state of peace throughout my day".

Thursday:
"I am intending to stay in touch with what is important to me".

Friday:
"I am intending to hold all day long the belief that there is more than enough time".

Saturday:
"I am intending to allow myself to enjoy this day".

Sunday:
"I am intending to trust that I am in the right place at the right time".

If you wish to see things shifting in your life, more free time, more money, more clients, more health, then start listening to what the friend named "OVERWHELM" is trying to communicate to you…

My biggest realization was that if I am overwhelmed, I am most likely getting off track, because I am constantly occupied with trying to get on track. We get back on track when we have balance in life,;running like a chicken without a head will not get you closer. Go back to become the chick that is breaking through the egg and wake up each morning finding your body and head connected.

Be happy and practice relaxation and come back to share how things are unfolding for you.

Sigal,
this is right on point with a huge number of us. We go through each week scheduling all our business activities to look like we are that so busy person.

We forget to leave room to smell the roses, per say. To have a break and allow ourselves to enjoy this journey. Too many of us are confused as to when there was a boss. That 9-5 mentality.

We are not here to work? We are here to enjoy each day as an adventure and learn from our choices of helping others and achieving our daily goals. Leaving much room daily, to do exciting things that will have our personal growth and enjoyment of life. We must have room to think and enjoy the view, per say.

Sigal, thank you for sharing this important focus point we all forget not to overload. Our time is so valuable and short. We should do things we love and enjoy daily. You won’t ever have another chance to experience life and this wonderful journey.

Hi Sigal,

Great post and great topic. Too many people feel overwhelmed by the daily events in their lives and don’t know how to create balance in their life.

You have to have a plan and use your time wisely if you want to achieve life/work balance.

I couldn’t agree more that you need to refine your self development skills and choose the tools from your arsenal that will help to get the job done.

Positive self talk and affirmations are great strategies and techniques that will help get you back on the right track.

Many people may not be aware of the the harm that can be caused by the negative thoughts currently within their mind and need to be able to better control their inner thoughts.

You are what you think about most of the time, so fill your mind with positive thoughts.

Keep inspiring us,
Marc

Hi Sigal,

this is a post a lot of people could benefit from.
Wouldn’t it be nice if more people were ready to incorporate what you are teaching into their lifestyle.

It has taken me a while to realize that peace and joy are more important than being needed and pleasing other people.

I love your affirmations, especially: “I am intending to take a deep breath with every decision I make today”

Thank you so much for making this availabe!

Planning, I think, can bring direction to your life. A well-planned day / week / month should help you see clear expectations. You therefore don’t have to worry about being overwhelmed. Time for unforeseen or unexpected events can also be planned for. However, I guess you should be good in forecasting these events. Those things that you absolutely do not expect rarely comes anyway.

I put a reminder in my blackberry, so every night I write out my top 3-5 most important items for the day.

Thanks for visiting Eldon.
When someone feels “behind” it’s only a perception, so what I suggest is to say to yourself that you are in front and soon enough, you will. That’s what I do, and it feels really good.

Cheers,
Sigal :-)

Hi Sigal, I know what you mean about overwhelm. I’ve just recently started working hard to simplify my schedule and cut out activities that just aren’t really that productive. You just can’t do it “all”, even though you’d like to. For a while there I was feeling very stressed because I was always behind because I had so much planned. :)

Hi Raena,
I am glad you visited.
One of the things I make sure is to clear my plate (and I don’t mean by eating it all :-) )
Here is a free guided visualization you can download, it’s about creating personal freedom.

I think it will go wonderfully with the work that you do with The Ultimate Game of Life.
All you need is to take about 10 minutes, hit the play button, sit back and relax.
Let me know if you like it or have any questions.

Warmly,
:-)

Hello Sigal,

This is a really great article about how our subconscious handles overwhelm. It is so easy to get to that state and more difficult to control it, if you don’t know how.

I really like your list of daily intentions. I’m one that has a difficult time relaxing and meditating, but I’m working on it. I am participating in a group called The Ultimate Game of Life and it is all about being conscious of what you value in your life and learning how to align your behaviors with your values. There is a lot to learn about meditation and thought.

I really love self-development and I’m glad I found your blog!

Thanks

Raena Lynn
