Mind Body Connection – How To Make Your Affirmation Become a Reality

baby sleepingWhenever you do something and expect results you want to make sure that you are doing it in a way that it will produce results for you. So when you are utilizing affirmations as a tool that will help you to actualize some of your desires it is best if you'll do them just before you go to sleep (learn more) and with your non dominant hand.

You probably heard about the mind body connection. But have you heard about the connection between your handwriting and your subconscious mind?

handwriting and brainOur handwriting comes from the central nervous system and goes back to it. It is motivated by a subconscious ideomotor response. Handwriting is a very powerful tool that allows us access to the subconscious mind, in both directions, meaning, when looking at a persons handwriting we can analyze their behavior, their personality traits and character. Also what is going on currently in their lives mentally and emotionally, what's on their mind, how they respond in certain situations and more.

When I created the Success-Shift™ Affirmations, it was after I had experiment with affirmations for several years. I learned form different people, followed their guidance and each time tweaked it based on what I discovered. I didn't continue doing what was not working, but I knew that this tool is very powerful and I wanted to develop something that was both simple ans easy to use as well as quick and powerful.

right and left hands with pencilOne of the main things that I discovered about back in 2007 is writing the affirmation (the right affirmation, not just and "OK" affirmation) with your non dominant hand. I used to write affirmations every night 21 times (the see affirmation), I would fall asleep in the middle and I could see how easily I can be discouraged and stop doing it, it just took longer. It still work, but it always works better when you are consistent with something and writing it one time with your non dominant hand might look wired (you don't need to show it to anyone) but it's quicker and acts like an injection to the mind. Bypasses the conscious mind and goes straight into the subconscious mind.

Then after you've done the affirmation in this way, you fall asleep, holding the image in your mind  of the affirmation as if manifested in your life and you dive into your dreams. That's where the magic is really taking place.

Another aspect that I'd like to emphesize is the feelings that you are experiencing when you are affirming or imagining. For many people it is not as easy to do, yet with writing your affirmation consistently you may find that it is becoming easier for you to start activating that feeling place.

    That is exciting, manifesting your goal in 3 weeks.

    When people are in workshop/seminar environment they will most likely do the exercise, even if they are not excited about the exercise. If they would be at home by themselves they might not do it. The left hand exercise was actually introduced to me in training that I took, so I found that it was easy to continue using it later on.

    Tony Robins’ seminars are phenomenal. I believe that when someone is giving themselves the gift of participating in them, they have such a strong desire and commitment that any of the exercises will take them to the next level in their lives.

    This was a very good read. I’ve been a really big fan of manifesting thoughts into reality ever since my first Tony Robbins seminar (i’ve attended almost 5 of them now, lol).

    There was a similar exercise that we practiced that was apart of the manifestation technique that I mentioned earlier. Basically we were to write down a list of 5 things that we wanted to achieve. Everything had to be very specific, and nothing too general, or “way out” (I.E I want to hit the lotto and be a millionaire!). Everything had to be very well thought out, precise, and something that we were actually in control of.

    After writing the 5 things down, we wrote down how it would effect our lives positively, and all of the necessary steps to achieve that goal. Once done, we picked the most important goal that we wanted to achieve out of the 5, and we wrote the steps down so many times I cant even remember what the number was. After that, we read the steps to ourselves for about 20 minutes straight. I will admit this was one of the less “exciting” exercises, but it burned the process so deeply into my brain that I achieved my goal in under 3 weeks time.

    However we didnt focus on doing things with the less dominant hand.

  3. Thanks for the comment Yasser. You are definitely a thinking man. A much as I want to say a definite “YES” or a definite “NO” it would be irresponsible for me to do that. There is only one definite think – that we all going to die. I have been asked (on this post I believe) what is more effective – writing one time with the none dominant or 21 times with the dominant.
    It is all up to you and what resonates with you, what makes sense to you and what feels right to you.
    Even when a stock expert will recommend you to invest their money in a certain stock, they are recommending based on their knowledge, experience, paradigms. But so many times people take that advice as the absolute truth, take action and then lose.

    With affirmation, the risk that one is taking is very low. I can tell you that I know people (myself included) that wrote, declared, yelled, visualized what they wanted and didn’t get it, and some people (including myself) that did.
    Our mind is so complex that whenever we discover one piece there is another hidden piece underneath.

    No one ever done a study (at least that I know of) about measuring the results of affirmations (studies are done in most cases where there is a way to profit from it) yet, there are so many books and articles that speaks about affirmations and their power.

    To conclude, I wouldn’t look for the perfect way to do affirmations. I’d try what is offered to me. as long as it resonates with my beliefs and makes me feel good. I experiment with it if I have nothing to risk (if I do, it’s a bit more challenging) and I live by this mantra – take the best and leave the rest.

    I do happen to have a question.

    Science is still grappling with why and how certain people have left handedness, which is different from 90% of the human population.

    It seems the brain’s spatial orientation is more of a structural issue than a ‘mind’ issue.

    Meaning, can we be so sure that the subconscious mind can be tapped directly with the non-dominant hand?

    Apart from handwriting itself, vocalizing and visualizing affirmations are also highly effective, and train the mind too.


  5. Lynn, you are actually bringing up a few good points.
    The writing is with your non dominant hand, so if in your case it’s left then you are good to go :-).

    You do not need to read those specific affirmations that you are writing with your non dominant hand. The purpose in writing them that way is to bypass the critical area in your mind (that tries to control the information that is coming in) and let the affirmation penetrate straight into the subconscious mind.     That is the most interesting information about writing your affirmations with your left hand. Obviously, you have not seen what my non dominant hand writing looks like. Not sure I would be able to read it! lol
    But, I will have to experiment with that. I definitely read my affirmations each day, twice. I really feel like I missed something if it happens (on rare occasions) that I miss doing it.

  7. Actually Steve I am suggesting to write it ONE TIME with your non-dominant hand.
    Regarding people who are ambidextrous, we’ll have to take a look at it individually. In your case since it is no longer the case, you know which one is dominant and which one is the non dominant.

  8. Very intriguing post, Sigal! Are you saying to write 20 times with the dominant hand and one with the non-dominant hand? Just out of curiosity, what if someone is ambidextrous? (I used to be for a very brief period in third grade, but not any more, so I was just curious.) Thanks for sharing this information!

  10. Hi Sigal, I’ve heard that somewhere before, about writing with the non dominant hand! Before I started using a computer and while I was still studying, my dominant hand used to get very tired.

    So, I started writing out things I needed to learn for exams, with my “other” hand. And, I did learn a lot! It took me a lot longer to write though, and it was barely legible:-)

    What an interesting blog and project you have.
    I have used affirmations in the past but never with handwriting. Lol….my handwriting is so bad I doubt my mind could register what it says! Should have been a doctor!

    But I like the idea of the shortcut of using your none dominant hand. It will also give us an extra skill over time. My friend tells me he is a two footed footballer because he had a bad injury with his dominant foot one time and was so keen to continue he used his none dominant foot and, when healed, he could use both feet to great effect.
    Sorry, I digress.

    I need to learn more about affirmations… will check out some more of your posts

  13. Perry, that is a very interesting question. I have asked it myself and this is the conclusion I got after pondering and experimenting with it for a while. Since we can’t scientifically really measure which one works better, I can not say that it is MORE EFFECTIVE. However, one of the ways for us to know if something works for us is our own inner voice, or our intuition or this inner knowing. I had times that I wrote an affirmation with my dominant hand 21 times and saw results (times that no results showed up) and with the non dominant the same story. The bottom line is what are you drawn to? Writing it 21 times or one time with your non dominant. After all it’s all about our subconscious and our belief system. If it makes more sense (or feels right) to you to go with option A because of the repetition then go for it. If it makes more sense (or feels right) to you to go with option B, where you are bypassing the critical part of the mind (that already controls to some degree your handwriting), then go with that.

    The thing is that everything that you don’t do automatically (like handwriting) has the power to create new neuro-pathways in your mind. The neuro-pathways are created on a subconscious level.

    Personally I used the non dominant technique. I use it simply because it is faster. I like using tools that are more usable. Some people will not write affirmations at all because the 21 times is time consuming. In that case writing with their non dominant hand will work better for sure 🙂

  14. Very interesting discovery about writing affirmations with non dominant hand. Are you saying that writing the affirmation one time with the non dominant hand is more effective than writing twenty one times with dominant hand?
